Getting Around
Medellín Transport Guide
From the Metro to cable cars, taxis to walking shoes — here's everything you need to navigate Medellín and El Poblado with confidence. One ride on the Metro costs ~2,500 COP (about $0.60 USD) — one of the best-value transit systems in Latin America.
Medellín Metro: The Backbone
- The metro is clean, efficient, and very cheap (~2,500 COP / $0.60 USD per ride)
- El Poblado station is on Line A. It connects you to downtown, the north, and the cable cars.
- Get a Civica card (recargable) at any station. Tap in, tap out.
- Avoid rush hour (7-9 AM, 5-7 PM). It gets packed.
Cable Cars (Metrocable): Essential Connector
- Line K from Acevedo station takes you up to the hills of Comuna 1 with breathtaking panoramic views of the city
- Line L connects directly to Arví Park, a 1,700-hectare cloud forest nature reserve with hiking trails and pre-Columbian sites View Arví Park guide
- Line H from Oriente station to Villa Sierra. The newest line with great views of the eastern hills.
- From El Poblado: take Line A north to Acevedo, transfer to Line K (Santo Domingo), then Line L to Arví. One fare, about 1 hour total.
- Metrocable hours: 4:30 AM – 10 PM (Mon–Sat), 8 AM – 7 PM (Sun). Line L to Arví: Tue–Sun only (closed Mondays)
- Go on a clear morning. The ride up to Arví is an experience in itself. Grab a window spot on the right side.
Getting Around El Poblado
- El Poblado is very walkable. Provenza, Parque Lleras, and Calle 10 are all connected.
- Uber/Didi work well for longer trips (~5,000-15,000 COP within the neighborhood)
- Taxi: yellow cabs are everywhere, but agree on the price before getting in
- Mototaxis: cheap and fast for short distances. Always negotiate the fare first.
Pro tip: Each Metro station opens up a different neighborhood. Check our Neighborhoods Guide to find out which area suits your vibe — then ride the Metro straight there.
